C.A.R.E. Baskets is an initiative started in 2003 by Jenna and me. We started this program to help families whose children are diagnosed with cancer. We know what it is like, since Jenna is a cancer survivor. She was 5 ½ when diagnosed with Leukemia and is now a beautiful 15-year-old young woman…thanks to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
The C.A.R.E. Baskets are our way of helping bring "home to the hospital". When kids are initially diagnosed with cancer, they may be hospitalized for up to a month or more. Families forget about bringing the essentials with them while dealing with the news “Your child has cancer”.
Approximately 60 children are diagnosed with cancer and are patients at the Maine Children’s Cancer Program (MCCP). We create the baskets anonymously from your donations and the MCCP social workers give them to the families.
C.A.R.E Baskets also makes a great community service project for your school or workplace. Jenna and I would be happy to provide you with advice and ideas.
